Q1: What does "oil-free" really mean? Is the compressor completely without oil?

A: Yes – the compression chamber contains no oil at all. Unlike oil-injected screw compressors that use oil for sealing, cooling, and lubrication inside the rotor housing, the EOWV-30A/W uses either water-injected or dry-running technology (depending on configuration). The only oil present is in the gearbox and bearings, which are completely sealed off from the air path. The delivered compressed air contains 0 ppm oil, meeting ISO 8573-1 Class 0.

Q2: How do I choose between air-cooled (A) and water-cooled (W)?

A:

  • Choose air-cooled (A) if your site has no cooling water source, water quality is poor, or ambient summer temperature does not exceed 45°C.
  • Choose water-cooled (W) if you already have a circulating cooling water system, the workshop is dusty, or temperatures often exceed 45°C – water cooling provides more stable discharge temperatures.

Q3: Is this compressor more expensive to maintain than an oil-injected one?

A: No – maintenance costs are generally lower. Since there are no oil filters, no oil separators, and no regular oil changes, consumable expenses are significantly reduced. However, water-injected versions may require periodic water filter changes and occasional descaling depending on water quality. Overall, total maintenance cost over 10,000 hours is typically 20–30% lower than oil-injected equivalents.

Q4: Can I use this compressor for breathing air applications?

A: Yes, but additional downstream purification (activated carbon filters, catalytic converters, and sterile filtration) is required to meet EN 12021 or Grade D breathing air standards. The EOWV-30A/W provides an excellent oil-free base, but CO, CO₂, moisture, and odour removal must be addressed with proper after-treatment.

Q5: The maximum flow is 5.20 m³/min at 0.8 MPa. Will it drop at higher pressures?

A: Yes – as with all positive displacement compressors, air delivery decreases as discharge pressure increases. At 1.0 MPa it delivers 4.20 m³/min, and at 1.25 MPa it delivers 3.18 m³/min. Choose your operating pressure based on the highest demand of your equipment to avoid oversizing or under-sizing.

Q6: Does this unit require special foundation or installation?

A: No – the compressor comes with an integrated steel base and built-in vibration isolators. A flat floor with a bearing capacity of ≥1000 kg/m² is sufficient. Allow at least 1 metre of clearance around the unit for ventilation and maintenance access.
